How was Coca - Cola Invented ? Who invented Coke ? History of Coke part 1

Coca-Cola was invented by Atlanta pharmacist John Styth Pemberton.

In 1885, Pemberton mixed up a pirated version of a drink called Vin Mariani.

  • Vin Mariani was a wine spiked with coca leaves ~ containing cocaine.
  • Rumors claim that Vin Mariani was consumed by Ulysses S Grant, Jules Verne, Thomas Edison, Henrik Ibsen, Emile Zola, The Russian Czar, and Pope Leo XIII.

Pemberton called his drink French Wine of Coca. Sales were poor.

The next year, he began working on improving the formula. He removed the wine, kept the coca leaf extract, and added the Kola nut - (which contains caffeine) Sugar and flavorings were added to kill the bitter taste of the coca and kola extracts.

The resulting product for sale? A syrup - (Not a refreshing drink)

The name " Coca-Cola " was born when Pemberton's partner, Frank M. Robinson, decided that the 2 C's looked nice in the Spencerian-script logo that he came up with.
